Instructions to Request Evaluation Exemptions or to Evalute Courses with Low Enrollments

  • If a course has previously been approved for an exemption or to be evaluated regardless of size, nothing more needs to be done.  To view courses that previously received an exemption or set to evalute regardless of size:
    • Go to:  admin.my.harvard.edu
    • Go to the FAS Curriculum Workcenter
    • Under the Reports tab, run the “Class Attribute Search” report.  If you do not have access to run this report, contact your curriculum coordinator for assistance.
    • When prompted, enter the current term, and the Course Attribute value of EVAL.

To request a new exemption or to set a course with less than 5 students enrolled to be evaluated:

  • Go to:  admin.my.harvard.edu
  • Select:  Maintain Schedule of Classes

To request an Exemption Request:

  • Add the Class Attribute called ‘EVAL’ (instructions on how to add an attribute can be found at https://hu.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/sites/FASROTrainingandDocumentation/_lay...).  Courses that have received an exemption approval in a previous term will already have the Exempt attribute.
  • Set the attribute value to ‘EXEMPT’ to request an exemption for a course. If a course has multiple enrollment sections (e.g. multiple lectures), each section needs to be marked “EXEMPT”.
  • NOTE: You will be contactrd by the Office of Undergraduate Education or the Student Affairs office of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences ONLY if your request for exemption is denied.

To set courses with less than 5 enrollments to be evaluated:

  • Add the Class Attribute called ‘EVAL’ (instructions on how to add an attribute can be found at hhttps://hu.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/sites/FASROTrainingandDocumentation/_lay...).
  • Set the attribute value to "ALWAYS" to evaluate courses with less than 5 students enrolled. If a course has multiple enrollment sections (e.g. multiple lectures), each section needs to be marked “ALWAYS”.  Courses with 5 or more students will be evaluated unless they have received an exemption (courses marked with the "EXEMPT" attribute).
  • If you do not have access to my.harvard Schedule of Classes, coordinate with your department’s curriculum coordinator.
  • NOTE: You do NOT need approval from the Office of Undergraduate Education or the Student Affairs office of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences to evaluate course of less than 5 enrollments.  All courses set with the "ALWAYS" attribute will be evaluated regardless of size unless this attribute is removed (by you) in the future.
